CareerScape 2024

A new stakeholder engagement initiative by the National Skills Council.

CareerScape 2024

CareerScape 2024 marked the launch of a new stakeholder engagement initiative by the National Skills Council designed to strengthen dialogue between education, industry, and policymakers around Malta’s evolving skills landscape.

More than a one-off event, CareerScape was conceived as a structured platform through which the Council could facilitate conversations on skills policy, skills intelligence, and skills development in the context of the future of work in Malta.

As Malta continues to experience sustained economic growth, CareerScape provides an important forum where stakeholders can reflect on emerging workforce challenges and explore how the country can better prepare for the skills and occupations that will shape the decades ahead.

Stakeholder Engagement Format

CareerScape 2024 took the form of two high-level stakeholder workshops, bringing together representatives from 13 sectors of Malta’s economy.

For each sector, a round-table discussion was organised, bringing together:

• industry practitioners
• education professionals
• policymakers

Each group discussed a common theme relevant to their sector, creating space for participants to share insights on workforce developments and emerging skills needs.

The sectors represented included:

Health

Long-Term Care

Financial Services

Digital Services

Transport

Hospitality

Built Environment

Manufacturing

Creative Arts

Education and Learning

Agriculture and Fisheries

Environment and Climate Action

Discussion Theme: Emerging Careers

Across all sector discussions, the central theme explored was Emerging Careers. Participants examined how technological change, economic developments, and societal shifts are influencing the creation of new occupations and transforming existing roles.

These discussions provided an opportunity to reflect on how Malta’s education and training systems can better anticipate evolving workforce needs and prepare individuals for future career pathways.

CareerScape 2024 also served as a milestone event within the European Year of Skills, providing a platform to explore Malta’s changing employment landscape within a broader European context.

From Dialogue to Action

One of the key outcomes of CareerScape 2024 was the development of a national communication campaign on emerging careers, which ran through the end of 2025.

The campaign aimed to promote a more inclusive understanding of career pathways and strengthen recognition of vocational education and training (VET) as an important route to career success.

By highlighting the value of both vocational and academic learning pathways, the campaign supports the development of a more agile, skilled, and resilient workforce in Malta.

Building the Foundation for CareerScape

By convening stakeholders from across sectors and encouraging forward-looking discussions, CareerScape 2024 laid the groundwork for ongoing national dialogue on skills development.

The initiative continues through subsequent editions of CareerScape, which further explore emerging workforce challenges and strengthen collaboration between education, industry, and policymakers.
