Skillscape 2025: State of Flux
SkillScape is the National Skills Council’s flagship annual conference focused on the future of work, skills, and lifelong learning.
Bringing together leading voices from across sectors, this event examines the evolving dynamics of the labour market in a world shaped by rapid change, technological innovation, climate shifts, and demographic pressures.
This year’s edition – themed ‘State of Flux’ – explores how global megatrends are reshaping the way we work, learn, and live. The conference shines a spotlight on the human edge – the skills that set us apart in an increasingly automated and unpredictable world: creativity, empathy, adaptability, critical thinking, and resilience.
Attendees can expect a thought-provoking agenda featuring keynote speeches, panel discussions, and interactive breakout sessions. The conference also offers valuable networking opportunities and a showcase of ongoing skills projects driving transformation across Malta.
The conference is free of charge and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Session 1: Adult career choices: obstacles and opportunities
What motivated you to choose your career? This session unpacks the findings of the Adult Career & Training Choices Survey 2025 to explore what drives career decisions in Malta, blending data with individual narratives. Respond to thought-provoking statements, share personal reflections, and compare your experiences with the survey findings. Through stories shared by panel speakers, the session explores how adults navigate transitions and balance stability with growth. Reflect on your own career journey in an ever-changing world of work as we explore insights that can inform organisational practices and strengthen lifelong learning.
Session 2: Experience matters: The power of skills recognition
In a world of career shifts and lifelong learning, much of what we know and can do often goes unrecognised. This session focuses on validating informal and non-formal skills through tools such as skills cards. Participants will explore how to make invisible skills visible, valuing lived experience in both career transitions and upskilling. Whether you're an employer, educator or policymaker, this is a chance to reflect on the real meaning of merit.
Session 3: Living tomorrow: Human stories from the future of work
Step into 2040 through the lives of four vivid personas navigating a world shaped by megatrends such as AI, green transitions, mobility, equity, and wellbeing. This highly engaging workshop invites participants to reflect on the human side of change through the eyes of a nomadic tech creator, a care manager working with robots, a marine scientist tackling climate threats, and a stay-at-home dad challenging gender roles. Together, we will imagine how these stories shape future work realities and what we can do today to build more inclusive, resilient futures.
Session 4: Learning pathways and emerging careers
As traditional career ladders give way to winding, personalised paths, how do we raise awareness among learners and workers towards the opportunities of tomorrow? This session explores new and alternative learning pathways, microcredentials, hybrid career profiles, and the skills needed to thrive in emerging sectors. It’s a chance to hear from trailblasers, reflect on national policy directions, and help shape the evolving landscape of education and training.
