Why a European Year of Skills?

Having a workforce with the skills that are in demand contributes to sustainable growth, leads to more innovation, and improves companies' competitiveness. Skilled workers enjoy better job opportunities as well as broader possibilities to fully engage in society. This is key to ensure that the economic recovery as well as the green and digital transitions are socially fair and just.

The European Year of Skills puts skills centre-stage. Helping people get the right skills for quality jobs and helping companies, specifically small and medium enterprises, address skills shortages in the EU is what this Year is all about. How will Malta facilitate this?

  1. by showcasing skills development opportunities and activities across Europe.
  2. by bringing organisations and people together to share their experiences and insights, and setting out how EU initiatives and funding possibilities can help, and
  3. by raising awareness on the skills needed for the future, specifically the Green and Digital Transition.

Events and awareness-raising campaigns will happen in Malta, and across the EU. Organising an event or activity on skills? Submit your event/activity here, and email the National Skills Council on pr.nsc@gov.mt .

You can find skills-related activities and events by checking the interactive map on the European Year of Skills website. EYS National Coordinators shape the Year in their countries.

This event was organised by the European Commission Representation in Malta, and debuted from the 8th to the 10th May 2023 as part of the European Year of Skills.

The National Skills Council held the first National Skills Conference titled ‘SkillScape’ on the 7th September 2023. The conference brought together 300 stakeholders from government, education, industry and community organisations to discuss and address the challenges and opportunities related to upskilling and reskilling.

On the 8th and 9th of May, the National Skills Council will be holding CareerScape. For more information on CareerScape, Click here.
